How Long Does Installation Take?
Most heat pump installations take 2- 5 days, depending on the size of your home and the complexity of the system. But every home is different. Smaller ductless projects may wrap up in just a couple of days, while larger whole-home or ducted systems can take closer to a week, or longer for more complex projects.
Before we begin, we'll provide you with a clear schedule tailored to your project so you know exactly what to expect.
Preparing Your Home
A little prep work on your end helps our crew work efficiently and keeps your project on schedule. Your Project Coordinator will share specific guidance before your install date, but here's what to keep in mind:

Clear the workspace. Make sure our team has clear access to the spaces where they'll be working during the install. The easier it is for our crew to get to work, the faster a heat pump can begin keeping you comfy
- For ductless systems: Our team will work in each room where a unit is being installed, as well as along the lineset routes.
- Clear each room where a wall unit is being installed. Pull any furniture (couches, desks, beds, etc.) away from the wall and remove any wall decor to prevent damage.
- Linesets typically run along the outside of the house, but your system design may require interior routes. Ensure access to attic or basement areas if linesets will run through them.
- For ducted systems: Our team will typically work in your attic and/or basement, depending on your system design. Each ducted system includes an air handler (the indoor unit) as well as hard and flexible ductwork that routes throughout your home.
- Clear the location where your air handler (indoor unit) will be installed (likely attic or basement).
- Make sure the routes for ductwork are accessible and free of obstructions.

Outdoor space matters too. Our team sometimes needs safe access to your outdoor unit location, electrical and water meters, and/or electrical panel, with a minimum of three feet of clearance to work safely and efficiently.
Check your proposal for any special prep
Depending on your home and system design, you may have additional items to address before installation, such as:
- Condenser location prep. Some homes require removing landscaping or leveling the ground where the outdoor unit will sit. If this was discussed with our sales team, please make sure to complete it so that your installation can be scheduled.
- Electrical upgrades. Some projects include an electrical panel or service upgrade. If yours does, there will be a brief period (est. 8 hours) without power while that work is completed. We'll confirm timing with you during the week of your install.
- Plan around other renovations. Working on a kitchen remodel, finishing a basement, or tackling another home project? Let your Project Coordinator know. Some renovations need to be completed before we can begin your heat pump installation, and we'll want to schedule accordingly.
What Happens During the Install?

- Day one: Your crew lead will arrive in the morning and walk through the system design with you before work begins. This takes about 30 minutes and is a great time to ask any questions.
- Throughout the install: Expect our team to arrive between 7:30 am and 9:00 am each day and wrap up between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm, depending on how the work is progressing.
- Final day: Plan to be available for about an hour at the end of your install. Our crew will walk you through your new system, including how to adjust settings, use the controls, and get the most out of your heat pump.
Is the Installation Disruptive?
Not really. Most installs take just a few days, and our team works hard to minimize disruption to your home. You'll know the schedule ahead of time, and your crew lead is there to answer questions and keep things running smoothly throughout the project.
