We’re on a mission: to build and power the next-generation trades worker.

Who we are and what we do.

Forge is solving the challenge of the disappearing trades workforce by building our own school to train the trades workers of tomorrow. After they are trained, we give them full-time jobs as heat pump installers with competitive wages, full benefits, and a 401(k) — and we equip them with new technology that helps them work more efficiently.

Is the trades workforce really disappearing?

You be the judge. Consider a few facts:

2.2M

additional trades workers needed over the next two years to meet the housing demands of the rising U.S. population

50%

of all trades workers will retire in this decade

60

years old is the average age of an electrician or plumber

So, what’s the solution?

The solution isn’t robots who can do plumbing, SaaS, or another marketplace.

It’s a tech-enabled labor force created by:

01

Overhauling how we bring young people into the trades

Apprenticeships are a time-honored way to learn a trade or a craft, and Forge is rethinking how to make them work for today’s workers. Our apprenticeship program provides comprehensive foundational training, jobsite training, and opportunities for skill expansion or even to lead a crew.

02

Making workers more productive than previous generations

We’ve found that a combination of on-the-job training and the adoption of technology is the secret sauce for making today’s trades pros more productive than ever. Training and tech — that’s the Forge formula. And it works.

“The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced $15.9 million in workforce development grant funding for 22 initiatives across Massachusetts [including $500,000 to Forge]... workforce development funding will train, upskill, and provide job placement for 2,182 workers for in-demand occupations.”
Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development
“Forge has been an excellent partner in the effort to build a diverse and skilled workforce. Forge's creative model of apprenticeship to the workforce is exciting and inspiring to other programs and companies in the city.”
Nathan Polk, YouthBuild
“Reliable, well-paying jobs are critical for refugee and newcomer families to build successful lives here, and it is a win-win because having more workers enter the trades helps all of us. Companies like Forge who are willing to open doors to these kinds of opportunities help to strengthen our community.”
